Is the primal instinct of man the core and principle that motivates all human behaviour? And if so where does one draw the line between beast and man?
Maul's life sparks in the cold and harsh mountains of Nordmar, raised in a village of outcasts by his clanless father. Maul's youth is mostly spent hunting and gathering only rarely having to fight off some of the wild orcs that would happen to come too close to his village.
As Maul grew up he became a respected warrior among his people, capable and brave he often took part in small hunting parties, bringing much renown to his name. His glory didn't live on for long as one day he and his men were ambushed by an orc hunting party while out hunting in the wilderness, resulting in him suffering a near death injury to his head, only having survived it with the aid of a druid but rendering his cognitive and speech abilities to a minimum.
As the war with the orcs develops on Myrtana, rumor has it that more organised armies of orcs and orc mercenaries are conquering ground and enslaving entire towns, rumor which soon turns out to be true when Maul's village suffers a similar fate.
Maul's ferocity in battle impressed even the orc leader during the raid of his village, having him chained and escorted along with other goods and slaves towards one of the now orc occupied towns to serve as entertainment fodder in the arena and slave work. Only fate had it that the small convoy Maul was being transported in was ambushed by a band of rebels, freeing him and the other slaves, Maul spent the next couple of months with the rebels, hiding and scavenging where they could, untill one day when word reaches Maul and the rebels of a single ship still traversing the sea between a hidden shore on the mainland and a so called island of Khorinis.
