Our story begins at the edge of a semi small town in the heart of myrtana, Higrid was a sturdy woman, adept in strange rituals and dabbling in witchcraft. Though she was a good woman to the townsfolk, helping with healing ointments and antidotes, she was abusive to her child. Her only child who she named after a kind of wetlands, Delta. Delta was never strong or quick, so she often cursed him and beat him for never reaching her standards. He grew up to resent her and sought refuge in the town chapel where a local novice lived and spent his days maintaining it and the graveyard. He often kept Delta company as he knew what drove him there. He found himself reading from his mother’s library often and sometimes experimented with herbs and feeding them to animals as a taste testing. Soon after discovering a certain mushroom, which became deadly after cooking, he fed it to his mother after an unusual and severe beating following Deltas 28th birthday. His mind shattered from intense guilt, fear, sadness, and hatred. He cursed his very existence and blamed Innos for creating him. Delta grabbed a burning log sticking half out of the fireplace and threw it in her room. As the house was engulfed in flames, he felt soothed, as though it comforted him with a warm embrace. “Take me then!” he yelled. The flames grew and began to sting as Delta realized he had no reason to end his life and ran before watching the house burn. Several villagers, carrying water buckets, arrived to douse and control the fire, but it was for nought for all was lost. Delta said goodbye to his home and took off down the main road with nothing but the shirt on his back. Delta remembers back to his life; from discovering a bog at the other end of the forest in which he almost drowned, saved by a local hunter. To his first kiss with the smith’s daughter. As well as reading the local announcements in town, adverts and job offers, though he never worked for anyone. “Guide me!” Delta exclaims to the sky as speaking to his god. “There is nothing in my life anymore, the hell you gave me is gone so where am I to go now?!” Guards from Delta’s village come riding towards him, unsure where to go, he sees it as a sign from above and surrenders. “You have been accused of public endangerment, Arson, and Murder in the first degree. How do you plead?” the judge demanded an answer. “Guilty, I beg no forgiveness, do with me what you will.” Delta responded in a hushed sad tone. “Very well, as any penalty is forbidden under the king’s law, you will be sentenced to Life imprisonment in the ore mines of Khorinis”. After 2 weeks of travelling by wagon and ship he was thrown into the colony with several others.
