History
Despite being born in a farmer's family, Iam never had neither knack, nor taste for peasant's life. Being of nimble frame he found it hard to perform his everyday duties, so instead he often sneaked away to climb trees, roam the countryside, eavesdrop village people gossip or slack off in some other way. When opportunity presented itself, Iam's father sent him off to Geldern to become a locksmith's apprentice. At first Iam didn't much care for his new position as it mostly involved physical labor and running errands. He did however enjoy the bustling city life as it satiated his curiosity every day. And at night, after all the chores have been done, he would climb the roofs to enjoy the view. As the time went more interesting duties came to play. Iam's master taught him how to read and write in order to keep the sales ledger and started teaching him how to craft locks. But, more interestingly, he showed him how to pick them. And for the first time in his apprenticeship Iam was actually keeping attention. For the first time he put an effort to practice on his own. Perhaps too much effort as one night he was caught trying to pick his master's personal chest. At this point his master was quite tired of the cheeky brat he was sent years ago. So that was the end of Iam's apprenticeship. He was going to travel back home at first, but realized he can't bear to face his parents. Not knowing what to do, Iam stayed in Geldern, trying and failing to find a job. Eventually he turned to using his new skill for crime, just to discover he quite likes it. It wasn't just about money anymore, it was also about fun. And so it went: once Geldern guard grew suspicious of him, he moved to another settlement just to do it all over again and then to another and another. However, breaking into people's property wasn't the only thing he did. Whenever there was an opportunity for an easy money or it was simply something new and exciting to do, Iam would jump on it: he ran with poachers, peddled stolen goods and fake artifacts, gambled, pickpocketed, tried to join the guard(fortunately for the locals, his general disregard for authority didn't help with that) and did other things. Once in a while Iam would send word to his parents to know he was ok, but never dared to show his face back home. This was his only shame. During his adventures Iam got himself in trouble plenty of times, but somehow luck was always on his side. Until it wasn't. During his time in Vengard he "overheard" that local merchant managed to procure some magic ore, a rare and sought after item on the mainland. Iam knew he absolutely had to get his paws on it. What he didn't know was that merchant hired a couple of mercenaries to guard inside of his shop at all times. And that's how he found himself on a long voyage to the Colony.
